Our Evolution . . .

Since we first opened our doors in 2011, our team has focused on sharing mindfulness practices with children and adults in Rhode Island to improve their lives and help create stronger and more vibrant communities.

For the first five years, we focused on serving in K-12 schools as ResilientKids, where our program showed positive results on student behavior and readiness to learn and on classroom and whole-school environments.

Our trained instructors and customized curricula are designed to build key social-emotional skills, pro-social behaviors and growth mindsets that help children, teachers and school communities thrive. Our classroom-based approach is particularly powerful in urban schools where disproportionately high numbers of students face the toxic effects of concentrated poverty and need additional supports in order to be ready to learn, manage stress and achieve success in school, career and life.

ResilientKids has worked with more than 5,000 Rhode Island students at 24 different schools across the state. Our results speak for themselves: dramatic reductions in student and teacher stress; bullying; and behavior-related visits to the principal’s office. In addition, our schools and teachers report increases in smoother transitions during the school day; more empathetic classrooms; and the number of students who feel grounded and able to concentrate on academics.

Growing demand for mindfulness programs by employers, parents and other community members made us realize we needed to expand our work to serve these other groups, both within and beyond Rhode Island, while not diluting our commitment to bringing mindfulness to local students and educators through our ResilientKids program.

We re-launched our organization as Center for Resilience in Spring 2016.

Today, we serve multiple audiences in the classroom, the workplace and the wider community, including:

  • Parents seeking balance and self-care

  • Veterans coping with post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Patients seeking better health outcomes

  • Physicians looking to reduce burnout

  • Companies interested in promoting employee well-being

Our results have shown:

  • 30% reduction in stress in teens and adults

  • 50% reduction in behavior referrals at school

  • 30% increase in trait mindfulness characteristics, which insulate against the negative effects of stress

Center for Resilience seeks to empower people to empower themselves through the practice of mindfulness which fosters success in the classroom, community and workplace. Our trained staff, tailored curriculum, interactive workshops, and online resources help children and adults manage stress, overcome obstacles, cultivate compassion and thrive through adversity – outcomes that benefit both the individual and society as a whole.

Our vision is one of resilience. We work in partnership to create a self-sustaining culture of fortitude in school, career, and life. We envision communities where all people live lives of strength, purpose and compassion. We inspire success one moment at a time.

…that growth and learning take place when people of all ages are connected, confident and focused.

…that mindfulness empowers us to handle adversity, manage emotions, and resolve conflicts in a proactive and deliberate way.

…that resilience is essential for thriving in school, career, and community.
